E-book access problems

If you are experiencing problems accessing an e-book please let us know.

Provide details such as:

  • title
  • platform ISBN
  • browser you are using
  • screenshots of any error message you receive.

Are there any viewing restrictions?

JSTOR provide two types of e-books, Unlimited User and Single User.

Unlimited User

  • There is no limit to the number of users who can access an Unlimited User title, unlimited multiple concurrent usage is permitted. 

Single User

  • Usage is limited to one reader at a time. 
  • You can identify single user titles as this text will be displayed:   


How many pages can I copy/print?

Unlimited User

  • There are no printing/copying restrictions but full copyright law still applies. 
  • See here for further information on copyright.

Single User

  • No printing/copy/paste is allowed.

To print JSTOR PDF’s:

  •  Do not use the ‘Print’ button on your browser.
  •  Accept the Terms and Conditions.  You should only need to do this once per session.
  • Open the article in the PDF reader.
  • Select the print icon in the navigation bar.

Please Note: If you print using the web browser the printout will be of poor quality and will contain the web page objects that appear around the page.

Can I download JSTOR e-books?

  • Yes - you can download JSTOR e-books.
  • We advise that you only download titles to your personal computer, mobile device or e-reader.
  • Do not download to public computers on City campus. 
  • You must accept the Terms and Conditions of Use, if you do not do this the download will produce a corrupted file.

Unlimited User

  • There are no download restrictions.

Single User

  • Downloading is restricted to 30 chapters per title per year.
  • You will not be able to print/copy from the downloaded chapter.
