Cite Them Right Online provides different types of guidance for how to reference academic journals, articles and other research. The appropriate guidance you choose depends on what kind of materials you are referencing.
Journal articles
Referencing an academic journal is the most straightforward way to reference academic materials. Even if you found a journal article online, you will need to include the information for the print copy, rather than a URL. For example:
Noda, H. (2019) 'Disability insurance and environmental tax policy in a zero net emissions society', Applied Economics Letters, 26(18), pp.1485-1493.
What is a 'doi'? DOI stands for digital object identifier. More stable than a url, it anchors an article to a particular place online. Although it is not required, you can include a doi to indicate that the article can be found online. They are often included on the journal article record. A reference with a doi looks like:
Noda, H. (2019) 'Disability insurance and environmental tax policy in a zero net emissions society', Applied Economics Letters, 26(18) pp.1485-1493. doi: 10.1080/13504851.2019.1582845.
