Finding books and journal articles

Welcome

You will find the Law Library on the first floor of the City Law School building, just follow the stairs up from the Ground Floor foyer.

Disabled access is via the far right-hand lift on the Ground Floor. Take the lift to Floor 1. Turn right on exiting the lift into the main body of the Law Library.

The Law Library has a large range of books. Some are only in print format and some are only in digital or e-book format, many titles are in both formats.

We subscribe to a number of law databases, which often include e-book collections within them. Whilst all book titles can be found by searching CItyLibrary Search, it can also be worth searching within a database itself eg Oxford Law Trove and Westlaw Books, as these contain many core texts, and by accessing the database itself you can search by topic or subject across its whole collection rather than just locate one particular title.

Finding books and e-books

Search CityLibrary Search by title, keyword or author to locate books and e-books.

To find a print book in the Library, make a note of the shelfmark (e.g. 345.41 HER) and match this to the spine of the book. Books are arranged according to the Dewey Decimal system, and are in numerical order.

To access e-books, select the e-book Full Text Online link and enter your City username and password.

You can also use CityLibrary Search to find books on a particular topic. Enter your subject keywords in the search box, e.g. Criminal Law. You can narrow down these results by using the filters on the left hand side of the page, e.g. library location, publication year, subject terms.

Ask at theLaw Library helpdesk if you can't find a specific book, or email us at: lawlibrary@city.ac.uk

Request a copy

What if all the copies of a book I want are out on loan? To request a book when all the copies are on loan, select Request it. You will be informed by email when your reserved copy is ready to collect.

Ask at the Law Library helpdesk if you can't find a specific book, or email us at: lawlibrary@city.ac.uk
