Publishers

Eligibility:

  • Must have a corresponding author affiliated with City
  • Must use City email address when submitting
  • Must be an eligible article type: research article, short paper, review article, survey article, technical note, tutorial, interview, note
    • The following are ineligible: abstracts, editorials, invited talks, invited papers, opinions, practice
  • Must be published in a journal or conference proceedings in ACM publications eligible for open access publishing under ACM open

How to use this agreement:

  • Ensure your City email address is used when submitting your research
    • Please note, your City email address allows the publisher to identify you for use of the agreement. Submissions with personal email addresses will not be accepted
  • On acceptance the corresponding author will be asked to complete the ACM Open eRights form
    • If the paper is submitted to an eligible journal it will state "This paper is part of the ACM Open Program" at the top of the page
  • Corresponding author must ensure all details are correct, check box and select 'Proceed to eRights form'
  • Select a Creative Commons licence

Approval

  • ACM will process and approve the request
  • Upon approval, you will be contacted to confirm.

Agreement

ACM Open (ACM's Transformative Model for Open Access Publication)

Eligibility:

  • Must have a corresponding author affiliated with City
  • Must be an original research article reporting on primary research
  • Must be funded by: UKRI, British Heart Foundation, Blood Cancer UK, Cancer Research UK, Parkinsons UK, Versus Arthritis or the Wellcome Trust
    • Please note the funding must be have been awarded to City to all the affiliated corresponding author to use the agreement
  • Must be published in a BMJ Hybrid journal. A full list of eligible journals can be searched for on the BMJ open access agreement webpage

Agreement

BMJ open access agreements for the United Kingdom

Eligibility:

  • Must have a corresponding author affiliated with City
  • Must be a CUP eligible article type: research articles, review articles and rapid communications, brief reports and case reports
  • Must be accepted by CUP between 1st January 2021 and 31st December 2024.

How to use this agreement:

Approval

  • Library Services will receive notification and check article eligibility before approval
  • Upon approval, you will be contacted to confirm.

Agreement

Cambridge University Press Read and Publish agreement

Eligibility:

  • The corresponding author must be affiliated with City
  • Articles must have been accepted between 1st January 2022 and 31 December 2024
  • Articles must be in a participating hybrid/subscription journal. This covers Elsevier's Core hybrid journals and hybrid titles in the Cell Press and The Lancet journal collections.

How to use this agreement

  • When submitting to a journal use your City email address
  • On acceptance:
    • 1. You will receive an email linking to the 'post-acceptance author journey to choose the open access option
    • 2. Select Creative Commons licence

Approval

  • Library Services will receive notification and confirm eligibility before approval
  • Upon approval you will receive notification that this has been confirmed.

Fully Open Access Journals

Corresponding authors are entitled to a 15% discount on the Article Processing Charges in participating Elsevier's fully open access journals.

Agreement

Important: The agreement allows all City authors to deposit their accepted manuscripts to City Research Online (CRO) with a Creative Commons-Attribution CC-BY licence. This is to enable authors who are funded by UKRI, NIHR, Wellcome trust, and others, to meet the requirements of the funders open access policies. Gold open access charges are not covered by this agreement.

Eligibility

  • Must have a corresponding or contributing secondary author employed at City.
  • All original research and review articles are covered.
  • All subscription based IEEE journals, magazines or conference proceedings are covered.

How to use this agreement

Authors funded by UKRI and Wellcome Trust

  • On submission the following statement must be included in the funding acknowledgment section of the manuscript and any cover note accompanying the submission:
    • “For the purpose of open access, the author(s) has applied a Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) license to any Accepted Manuscript version arising.”
  • On completing the IEEE publication agreement, ensure you select "UKRI" or "Wellcome Trust" as the funder in "Step 2: Checking for Funder Mandates"
  • On completion of the copyright agreement authors will automatically obtain permission to apply the CC-BY licence to their manuscript.
  • Upload the accepted manuscript to CRO, and inform the Publications Team you have been granted permission to use the CC-BY licence.
    • The Publications Team will apply the CC-BY licence.

Authors affiliated with City and/or receiving other funding

  • On submission the following statement must be included in the funding acknowledgment section of the manuscript and any cover note accompanying the submission:
    • “For the purpose of open access, the author(s) has applied a Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) license to any Accepted Manuscript version arising.”
  • Email IEEE at copyrights@ieee.org to request the use of the CC-BY licence.
  • On receiving a response allowing the use of the CC-BY licence:
    • Upload the accepted manuscript to CRO, and inform the Publications Team you have been granted permission to use the CC-BY licence.
    • The Publications team will apply the CC-BY licence on making it available.

Agreement

  • Use your City email address on submission and select the City, University of London affiliation in the publisher system
  • You will receive a link to OUP's licensing and payment system on acceptance.
  1. Login to sign your licence to publish
  2. Select Creative Commons licence.
  3. Proceed to Payment
  4. Select UK Institutions beneath 'Open Access Prepayment Account'
  5. Check Refer Charge? box
  6. Click Refer Charges at bottom of page
  7. Provide information on 'Confirm Address' and submit.

Approval

  • OUP will approve the request
  • Upon approval, you will receive an email to confirm that your request has been approved.

Agreement

Oxford University Press UK institutions 'Read and Publish' deal

  • Use your City email address on submission and select the City, University of London affiliation in the publisher system
  • On acceptance:
    1. Complete and sign SAGE’s Journal Contributor’s Publishing Agreement
    2. You will receive notification from SAGE that your article as eligible
    3. Sign in to the SAGE Open Access Portal to agree to the Open Access Contributor's Agreement
    4. Select Creative Commons licence

  • Library Services will receive notification and confirm eligibility.

Fully Open Access Journals

Corresponding authors are entitled to a 20% discount on the Article Processing Charges in participating journals.

Agreement

SAGE UK Jisc agreement

Eligibility:

  • Must have a corresponding author affiliated with City
  • Must be original research papers, review articles, brief communications and continuing education articles.
  • Must be published in a Springer, Palgrave Macmillan or Nature hybrid subscription journal
  • Please note, colour charges are NOT covered by the agreement, however, eligible authors may have their colour charges waived by making a request to the relevant journal

How to use this agreement:

  • Use your City email address on submission and select the City, University of London affiliation in the publisher system
  • On acceptance,
    1. Identify yourself in the MyPublication form using one of the following:
      • Selected Institution; Institutional Email; Location
    2. Agree to the open access terms.
    3. Select Creative Commons licence.

  • Library Services will receive notification and check article eligibility before approval
  • Upon approval, you will be contacted to confirm.

 

Fully Open Access Journals

Corresponding authors are entitled to a 15% discount on the Article Processing Charges in participating journals published by Springer Nature.

A full list of journals can be found on the Springer Nature open access for the UK agreement webpage.

When publishing in a Nature Portfolio journal, "original paper" is the only applicable article type.

Springer Nature open access agreement for the UK.

Eligibility:

  • Must have a corresponding author affiliated with City
  • Must be an original research article:
    • not covered: Book reviews, editorials, announcements
  • Must be accepted for publication on or after 1 January 2024.
  • Coverage includes both fully open access and hybrid (Open Select) journals, as well as F1000 Research and Routledge Open Research.
    • Not all fully open access journals are covered by the agreement. For a list of fully open access journals, please contact publications@city.ac.uk

    • Dove Press journals are not included in the agreement

    How to use this agreement:

    • Use your City email address on submission and select the City, University of London affiliation in the publisher system
    • On acceptance:
      1. Taylor & Francis will contact you to inform you that you may be eligible
      2. Select Creative Commons licence.

    Approval

    • Library Services will receive notification and confirm eligibility.

    Agreement

    Taylor & Francis read and publish agreement with UK JISC Consortium

Eligibility:

  • Must have a responsible corresponding author affiliated with City
  • Must be primary research or review article
  • Must be accepted for publication on or after 01 January 2024 if submitting to an hybrid journal
  • Must be submitted on or after 01 January 2024 if submitting to a fully open access journal
  • Must be published in a fully gold OA, or a hybrid (subscription), Wiley journal that offers open access

How to use this agreement:

Subscription journals

  • You must order open access at the point of acceptance.
  • Use your City email address on submission and select the City, University of London affiliation in the publisher system.
  • On acceptance:
    1. Login to Wiley Authors Services
    2. Confirm funders if appropriate
    3. Confirm City as your institution
    4. Select 'Yes, make my article open access'
    5. Select Creative Commons licence

Gold open access journals

  • Before submitting an article, check your eligibility with the Publications Team
  • During submission, select the payment option that says “The Corresponding Author’s institution/funder has an agreement with Wiley” and follow the instructions. Select City, University of London as your institution.

Approval

  • Library Services will receive notification and confirm eligibility before approval
  • Upon approval, you will receive an email to confirm.
