Information on how the Library supports accessibility and inclusivity.

Assistive Technology Spaces

You can access specialist assistive software in the dedicated spaces at Northampton Square Library and the Law Library.

Assistive Technology Centre Northampton Square

The Assistive Technology Centre (ATC) at Northampton Square Library makes available a range of assistive software packages, equipment and adaptive furniture. There are three individual bookable rooms and three drop-in spaces with pcs.

Northampton Square ATC directions

The ATC is in Northampton Square Library Level 2. Turn right from the Library entrance or the accessible lift entrance and follow signage to the ATC. The door to the Assistive Technology Centre and all internal doors to individual rooms are automatic and will open when you swipe your City ID card on the reader. Use a drop-in space

You can use a pc or study space in the Assistive Technology Centre drop-in area. There are three pc spaces available. You do not need to book ahead to use one of these spaces. 

Book an individual room

You can book up to four hours per day. There are three individual Assistive Technology Rooms available.

The Assistive Technology Room Law Library


The Assistive Technology Room (ATR) at the Law Library makes available a range of assistive software packages, equipment and adaptive furniture. There is one bookable room with capacity for one person.

Law ATR directions

The ATR is in the Law Library Level 1.

  • If you are taking the stairs to the Library turn left from the Library lobby area and the ATR is straight ahead. 
  • If you are taking the lift. The lift will arrive inside the Library. Exit the Library and you will find the ATR on your right-hand side.
  • The door to the Assistive Technology Room is automatic and will open when you tap your City ID card on the reader. 

Book the Law ATR

You can book up to four hours per day.

Terms and conditions

  • If you are more than 15 minutes late your booking may be cancelled and allocated to another user.
  • Do not leave belongings unattended.
  • Leave the space neat and tidy for the next users.
  • The AT spaces at Law and Northampton square are available only to students with City ID cards set with access permission. Access must be agreed in your Student Support Plan by The Student Counselling, Mental Health and Accessibility Service
  • External visitors without City cards are not permitted access, as per the Library Charter.

Assistive Technology Computers at the Business School

There are two Assistive Technology Computers at the Business Library. The computers are in the open area at the entrance of Room 1002.

You do not need to book to use these computers.

The following assistive software applications are available in the Assistive Technology spaces: 

  • ABBYY FineReader
  • AudioNotetaker
  • Dragon Professional
  • JAWS
  • Mind Genius
  • Read&Write
  • Spellex Legal (Law Library only)
  • ZoomText

Furniture and equipment

  • Each space is equipped with a height adjustable desk and an ergonomic adjustable chair.
  • Dual pc monitors are available in Room 1 (Northampton Square ATC).
  • Flatbed book scanners are available in Room 1, Room 2 and at Desk 1 (Northampton Square ATC).
  • An overhead scanner is available in the ATR Law Library.
  • A selection of keyboards, mice, lamps and document holders are all available in the spaces or are held at the Library Help Desk. Equipment can be moved to the room or desk you are using. Please ask a member of staff if you need help.
