Eikon

Overview

Eikon contains a wide variety of data, which is organised into 'universes': groupings like public companies, private companies, deals, and private equity/VC.

For companies, you can find information on:

Ownership and number of employees

Financials and turnover

Country of incorporation

Market capitalisation and stock prices

The Eikon toolbar

Once you've logged in to Eikon, the toolbar will appear at the top of your screen. If you're accessing it via one of our Financial Resources PCs, the toolbar will only appear on one of the dual monitors. You can move the toolbar by unlocking it (using the button on the far right) and moving it where you want.

The Eikon logo

To begin searching Eikon, click the round orange Eikon button in the far left. You can use this to open the app menu, settings, and find help.

You can also use the search box to find apps, data, and answers to questions.

Make sure you save all your data outside of Eikon after each session because we cannot guarantee access to the same username again.

Searching for data

There are several ways to search for information on companies. You can search by names and abbreviations, descriptive terms, or industry codes (such as Ticker or CUSIP). Company profiles, instruments, and topics are linked directly in the News application,

You can also ask questions in natural language, and Eikon's autosuggest will interpret your entry and provide results.

In addition, Eikon contains country guides with in-depth economic indicators. Find them by searching for country names.

To find FAQs to help you get the most out of your searches, start your query with 'How do I...'.

Finding data using Excel

There are several ways you can find and export data from Eikon using the Excel add-in.

Mac users: Please note that the Excel add-in is only available for Windows PCs. Data can also be downloaded using the Screener from the Eikon web interface.

Screening

Screening allows you to search for companies that meet a set of criteria. Select the Screener option from the Eikon toolbar, and enter your criteria on the left-hand side. Select your universe and add your criteria to start screening. You can also use the screener for a range of other topics including mergers and acquisitions and IPOs.

Screening limitations: Please note, if you are searching for both publicly traded and private companies, you should carry out two separate searches. Selecting the option for searching Private and Public companies will slow the system down to a standstill.

Building a formula

The Build Formula option on the Eikon toolbar can help you easily build complex formulas. Autosuggest will help you add instruments and data items. You can choose between Real-Time and Fundamental or Time Series data, and specify your parameters.

You can also enter formulas manually. Begin by typing =TR(, and Autosuggestions will appear to help you enter your formula.

Editing your formula

Your formula will be entered into a single cell, displaying the text Updated at [time]. This will populate the rest of your sheet. If you need to make any changes to your formula, select the formula cell and click on Build Formula to re-enter the formula builder.

You might find that you need to install the Excel add-in if it is not pre-installed on your account. Follow these instructions to install the add-in.
