Accessibility

Information on how the Library supports accessibility and inclusivity.

Access to buildings

  • Step free access is available via the lift in the Pavilion ground floor to Library Level 2.
  • Within the library, lift access is available to all floors.
  • There is an accessible entry gate next to the Library Help Desk.
  • There are automated doors to the Library Assistive Technology Centre on Level 2.

Accessible toilets

  • Level 2 lobby (men),
  • Level 3 lobby (women).

Furniture

Adjustable desks

  • Height adjustable desks are available in the Assistive Technology Centre, Level 2. Three of these are standing height (located in the drop-in area).
  • A height adjustable desk is available in the entrance area on Level 5.
  • A height adjustable desk is available in the Level 6 PC lab.

If you need help adjusting a desk, please ask a member of staff at the Help Desk.

Chairs 

  • Ergonomic chairs (available with mid back or head and neck support, with and without armrests) are available in the Assistive Technology Centre on Library Level 2.

Adjustable desks

  • There are four height adjustable desks (which can be extended to standing height) in the Journal Study Area.
  • There is one height adjustable desk in the Silent Study Zone.

These desks are manually operated using a handle. Please ask library staff if you require assistance adjusting the desks.

  • There is one electrical height adjustable desk (to standing height) in Room 1002.
  • There is one manually operated height adjustable desk in Room 1002.

Two study spaces against the wall of the computer lab. Each consists of PC computers on height adjustable desks. Each desk has a power point mounted on top. A chair on castors can be seen at one desk.

14 height adjustable (to standing height) desks are available in the following locations:

  • The main Library space, 10 desks in total, on both sides of the study area.
  • The PC Lab, 3 desks on the corner of the first 3 rows.
  • The Assistive Technology Room.

Induction loops

  • A portable induction loop is available at the Library Help Desk at Northampton Square Library. Please ask a member of staff if you would like to use it.
  • A fixed induction loop is in operation at all times at the Law School Library Help Desk. Please speak to a member of staff if the you would like the system volume to be adjusted.
