How to edit and updates lists on Reading Lists Online, and how to request digitised extracts.

How to access Reading Lists Online

Go to Reading Lists Online. Click on the Log In link in the red banner, under the name of the resource. Use your City email address and password to sign in. 

In Moodle, you can access Reading Lists Online via the Module Dashboard for your module. 

How to create your profile

The first time you log in to Reading Lists Online, you will be prompted to create your user profile indicating your name, email address and your role. Make your profile public, this will allow your students to search Reading Lists Online for reading lists that you have created and published.

Adding a web extension to your browser

Before you can start adding references to the list on Reading Lists Online, you need to add an extension to your browser. The browser extension is available for Chrome, Firefox and Edge. 

Use the browser extension to add references to your reading list. You can bookmark resources from CityLibrary search and other websites. 

If you change computer or use different browsers you will need to install the browser extension again. 

Choose your browser and follow the instructions on this page to install the browser extension. 

Web extensions for your browser

  1. Open Google Chrome.
  2. Find the Talis Aspire Reading Lists Bookmarking on the Chrome Web Store.
  3. Click on the Add to Chrome button. 
  4. A pop message will appear, asking to confirm you want to add the extension to your browser.
  5. Select Add extension. You should now see the Talis Aspire logo in your toolbar.
  6. The first time you click on the Tails Aspire browser extension on the toolbar, you will be prompted to select your institution. Click on the dropdown menu and select City, University of London. 
  7. Save your preference.
  1. Open Mozilla Firefox.
  2. Go to the Mozilla Firefox Adds-on menu to find the Talis Aspire Reading Lists Bookmarker.
  3. Click on the Add to Firefox button. 
  4. A pop message will appear, asking to confirm you want to add the extension to your browser. Click on Add
  5. Right click on the Talis Aspire logo in your toolbar.
  6. Click on the dropdown menu and select City, University of London. 
  7. Save your preference.
  1. Open Microsoft Edge.
  2. Go to Talis Aspire Reading Lists Bookmarking.
  3. Follow the instructions for adding the extension to Chrome.
  4. Save your preference.

Installing the Bookmark Button

Alternatively, you can install a Bookmark Button on your browser.  The Bookmark Button allows you to capture resources and add them to your My bookmarks page. You only have to install the Bookmark Button once on your PC or on your laptop. 

To install the Bookmark Button:

  • Check your browser, and ensure that you have ticked the "Show bookmarks bar".
  • Go to Reading Lists Online.
  • Select My Bookmarks tab.
  • Select Install Bookmarks Button on the right hand side of the screen.
  • Follow the instructions on the screen to drag and drop the Bookmark Button to your favourites on your toolbar. 

You may want to rename the Bookmark Button. The default name is 'Add to My Bookmarks'. To rename the Bookmark Button, simply right-click and select Properties. In the Name field, change the name e.g. Bookmark to Reading List.
