LibGuides at City St George's

The same heading is used for all subject guides. Custom headings can be arranged for other type of guides. Contact Antonella Yarnold / Jessica Wykes to add heading to your guide.

Your profile

Subject Librarians should add their profile box to the first page of a subject guide. Check Springshare instructions to edit your profile.

The profile box should include:

  • An official work photograph.
  • Your email address.
  • The library where you are based.

Before you create a new guide

Search all existing library guides to check if the content has already been covered. Do we already have a guide covering the content / topic?

  • Yes - speak to the guide owner about adding / editing / reviewing the information instead of creating a brand new guide. You can then map to the relevant box or page.
  • No - if it is a new topic / subject, please contact Claire Packham, or the Chair of the Libguides Group and give an outline of the guide you want to create.

Creating a new guide - The Basics

  • Navigation - To ensure all Library guides have the same look and feel, please use the default Side Nav layout, which is mobile responsive.
  • Guide Type / Group -  You need to assign your guide to one of these 5 guide types: Subject guides, Help with, Library Services, Blueprint and Internal.  This guide, for example, has been assigned to the category Internal. The content is only going to be available to Library staff, who have been given the URL to the guide.
  • Subjects - Only Subject guides should be assigned to the category subject.
  • Tags - Assign appropriate tags to the guides to make them more discoverable. 4 or 5 tags per guide would be sufficient. When you add your tags, think about terms that consist of of 2 keywords or more, and how students would search.  For example, if you add the tag Pressreader, students will not retrieve results if they search for Press reader.  Consider adding both versions as tags.
  • Friendly URLs - A friendly URL, is a web address that is easy to read and remember. You must assign a friendly URL to the guide and to each page within the guide.  If the guide (and pages of the guide) doesn't have friendly URLs, it will not be published.
  • Headings - You need a heading for each box on your page. The first heading on the page must be Heading 2.
