LibGuides at City St George's

Resources and Best Practices for creating LibGuides at City St George's

Friendly URLs

Give your guide and each page within your guide a friendly URL. Friendly URLs are easier to remember and share with students.

Follow the standards below when creating the URL:

Friendly URLs for all guides should:

  • Be in lower case letters
  • Be short and easy to remember
  • Not use symbols or numbers
  • Use hyphens instead of underscore to separate words
  • Be limited to a maximum of three words. No need to include words like 'and' and 'the'.

Example:

https://libguides.city.ac.uk/journalism

https://libguides.city.ac.uk/tv

How to change your Guide URL

Subject Associations

Only Subject Guides should have a subject association. Select edit (the pencil icon) and start typing the subject you require. This is a pre-populated list, if the subject you need isn't on the list please contact Lucy Clifford to add the subject.

Tags

Tagging your guides with a few keywords will help users find it in the system. You may type in a keyword in the Tags edit box, or select any of the existing tags to add to your guide. Tags work in conjunction with the Subjects tag (required), and provide granularity for the guide’s content.

You would only need 4 to 5 tags per library guide.
