Resources and Best Practices for creating LibGuides at City St George's

Publishing Workflow

The Publishing Workflow allows the LibGuides Group to review all guides before they are published to maintain consistency in the tone and content of all guides. The Publishing Checklist lists criteria to help guide authors to follow the standards, guidelines, and best practices before they publish or extensively revise guides.

Check your library guide for the following guidelines before submitting it for review.

If you have questions, please contact Antonella Yarnold (AY) or Lucy Clifford (LC).

  • Use side navigation for your guide, it is mobile responsive.
  •  When naming guides, pages and content boxes, keep it short and clear. Be consistent. Avoid using library jargon.
  •  Assign a guide type
  •  Assign Subjects and Tags to your guide to make it discoverable.
  •  Assign a friendly URL to the guide.
  •  For Subject Guides, add a profile box to the guide homepage. For Subject Guides we need to use the Subject Guide template (ask AY or JW for assistance).
  •  Reuse content whenever possible, which means you have to map box(es) instead of making copies.
  •  The title of the box is heading 2. When you add a subtitle use heading 3 and then use headings in logical order.
  •  Images must be described, unless decorative or fully described in the surrounding text.
  •  Remember that less is more.  Use simple, direct and engaging language.  Keep it short.
  •  If you have embedded links to online resources within Rich Text Boxes, they will not be picked up by the Link Checker.
  •  If you have copied content from another source, remember to remove any hidden code.

If you want to use any special features (accordions, tables, alert messages etc.) please speak to us.
